What is the cost of Fear

Many people have goals (whether or not they call them goals), thing they want to achieve in their life for example relationships, work, family or business.

A huge proportion of those people will not achieve their goals for many reasons, maybe their situation changes, perhaps the goal is not right for them … or there are surmountable obstacles in the way that stop people in their tracks.

So why do people not achieve their goal if the obstacle can be overcome?  Well sometimes the goal is not right for them and they know it – or the fear of achieving their goal itself can be scary.

Whatever your fear it will be costing you something – whether it be physically or emotionally or financially.  What is it that you are in fear of right now that is holding you back?  Come up with at least 20 things that it is costing you and what are the hidden benefits of having the fear.

For example

  1. Losing a significant amount of weight and becoming more attractive to others can be scary for some people with low self esteem.
  2. Moving on after a relationship – starting to date again, worrying that the next relationship will end for similar reasons, e.g. cheating, violence, debts etc
  3. Working in a job that makes you unhappy – but worried to leave incase you don’t get another job – or fear of taking another job and it not working out.
  4. Business – setting up on your own and finding that you can’t get clients or sell your products

There are many situations where fear can hold us back but what can we do about it? Firstly acknowledge the fear then take action – books, coaching groups and 1:1 coaching are all great methods that can help you overcome your fears and help you move forward in life and in business.

My tips is:

  • Acknowledge the Fear – what exactly are you scared of
  • Rate it 1-10 (10 being really scary)
  • How ‘real’ is the fear?
  • Explore ways you can overcome the fear
  • Take Action
  • Celebrate you Success at overcoming your Fear.

As you overcome your fears you will find your confidence levels increase – so which of your fears will you work on first – and why?

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE LAW OF ATTRACTION:

This session is a great Introduction to the Law of Attraction. You can change your life by stop focusing on what you fear and what you don’t want. Instead start focusing on what you DO want. Your whole life can change if you learn how to apply the law of attraction.
We will look at the steps to take to successfully engage the Law of Attraction to attract Personal and Professional success. This is an interactive session in which members share their own knowledge, experience and success when engaging the Law of Attarction.
Whether you are new to the concept of engaging the Law of Attraction or if you have used it before this is a great informal session to meet other like minded people and take something positive from the session.

Further Information

Our workshops run from the offices of Newcastle Performance Coaching Limited, West Fifteen, Whickham View, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE15 6UN. The room is on the first floor and there is no lift in the building.

There is street parking outside, a carpark across the road. Public transport buses (please check timetable and route) 1, 30, 31, 38)

You are required to attend at least 15 minutes before the start of the session so that you find a seat, make a drink, meet other delates, get settled and so the session is not disrupted by late arrivals.

Refreshments and materials are provided – please bring along pen/pencil and paper if you would like to take notes.

There will be 1-15 people at the session (we don’t have a minimum number).

The format of our sessions vary between workshops, activities, presentations and discussions. All sessions are friendly, relaxed, informal and interactive. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the session.

Each month we cover a different coaching topic, personal development or NLP topic that gives you tools to use on yourself and others, whether you are a private individual or a person seeking professional tips.

 

We are friendly social group that meets once a month usually upstairs at the new Costa Coffee in Trinity Square Gateshead.

 

 

Meetings are typically held on different Saturday mornings 10-12 noon(ish) but dates and venues may vary so keep an eye on the website and please sign up to the group.

How To Find The Best Life Coach

Life coaching or mentoring is a booming industry and it is one which we associate with this last decade. Before then these titles were not ones which were bandied about as part of everyday conversation. Rather, we would refer to having a mentor in what would be considered almost exclusive circumstances; you would have a mentor in University or perhaps a mentor at work. Few people would refer to having a mentor in more personal circumstances.

It is good to see the explosion of popularity within this industry. What is more important to you – your business or your personal life? Why would you have a mentor at work and yet no mentor when you are dealing with more personal issues?

In the UK, life coaching and mentoring programs would seem to have caught on just as rapidly as in the USA which is something that I personally find quite interesting. For years now, residents in the USA have been familiar with various forms of counseling and therapy
and these are seen as both positive and the norm. In the UK, however, many people secretly shiver at the very thought of needing to see a counselor.

Why has there been this change in attitude in the UK? Why are people more open to life coaching and mentoring than to counseling or various other forms of therapy? The answer I think lies in the way in which these programs are presented. Life coaching and mentoring are promoted as “life enhancement programs” as opposed to counseling or therapy which are thought of more as ways in which to fix something which is wrong; and who wants to think that they have something wrong, especially when it comes to their mind?

The fact is that the way in which something is advertised to us or presented to us can totally change the way in which we perceive it. The color of the advertisement or the shapes or pictures used impact upon us greatly. The simple act of altering one word in an advertisement can have the effect of changing a sales ratio by 80%. That may seem outrageous to you, but it is true; it is fact. I think that the use of a different title lies at the heart of why life coaching and mentoring is found to be more popular and acceptable than various other forms of “therapy”.

When you look deeper than just the titles, one can see that a therapist’s job (irrespective of their “title”), is to help their client to adjust their thinking and behavior to enable them to best achieve their goals. The client on the other hand will tend to seek out the therapist/therapy/life coach/mentor who has been presented to them as the most appealing, be that on the basis of something which they have read or seen on TV, heard on the radio or had recommended to them by a friend.

What is very clear is that there are many of us who feel in need of help or guidance. As children we learnt many things by being shown or copying. We are good at learning in this way; we are accustomed to it. And so perhaps a further appeal of the words “mentor” or “life coach” is that we are in fact looking for someone else to tell us what to do, instead of looking for a way in which to work things out for ourselves. In reality however, it is you who is living your life, and the best way in which to really learn and grow is to find things out for yourself.

Please don’t misunderstand me. I am not saying that we do not need guidance. Guidance is a great asset. But no therapist/mentor/life coach can “do it” for you; they can only ever guide you, no matter what their title is.

I’m going to recommend something here which I think is a great place in which to start. We all have those days when things dont seem to be going right, sometimes when we are unsure what to do next something catches our eye, this could be a comment made by another person, something on TV or an article in the press.  How often do we see recommendations on TV for a good book, a good recipe, or a motivational new film. 

Oprah is known for her recommendations especially when you need a swift kick up the bum – when you need someone telling it like it is, pulling no punches.  Many people turn to Oprah for weight loss advice and inspiration, tips on what to wear, hairstyles and makeup. In the UK a great lifestyle TV show covering these these topics and generally featuring ‘real’ people is ‘This Morning’ on ITV. 

How many of us would admit to having let ourselves go at some stage in our lives?  Many of us have a variety of life stories to tell, from abuse and weight gain to broken relationships and significant life changes that brought them to a point, they say, of losing themselves and letting themselves go.

The reason why TV shows like Oprah and This Morning are so great is that viewers know exactly how the show guests feel, and share similar stories of putting others first, feeling depressed, gaining weight and feeling hopeless and helpless to put things right  We look to those for inspiration, perhaps the way the featured guest deal with a situation would help us deal with ours, or motivate us to take action on something that has been wearing us down for a while, for example; take action to lose weight, reduce alcohol intake, end a failing relationship, combat fears and phobias …

Have you ever watched one of those TV shows and thought to yourself “I feel like I have let knowing who I am go”,  “Why am I putting up with this situation?”,  and I don’t want to settle for just anything. I want to get back on track. I need help and I dont know where to start” ”
